Walk-in clinics are
in competition with family practices, and threaten the future of all family physicians and
family practices across Canada.
-
Walk in clinics do
not provide the same level of care than family physicians do.
-
Family doctors
typically spends 2 - 3x more time with their patients than doctors
working at W/I clinics. In spite of this, the Alberta Health does
not differentiate between a quick visit to a "walk-in" doctor and
and a visit to a family doctor and pays both physicians equal.
-
More and more
physicians are therefore opting out of family practice to work in
the more lucrative W/I clinics where they can see a 100 - 120
patients a day compared to family practitioner seeing maybe 40
patients daily.
-
Family physicians
do need to see their own patients for those short quick visits to
compensate for the longer visits they spend with them on another
day. Family doctors can not keep their doors open for lengthy visits
only.
Please
support and remain loyal to your family doctor by visiting him / her for ALL
your medical needs!
